After filling it, and hoping to see my favorite little birds enjoying the feast, I saw hordes of starlings gobbling up the bird grub ... the grubs are very expensive! I am reluctant to buy more bird grub until I can place it in a better-designed feeder, to actually feed the birds I am trying to attract -- bluebirds, woodpeckers, etc. I don't mind feeding starlings and grackles - they too want to live! But I would prefer to feed them something less expensive For them, I like to put out cracked corn, "scratchfeed", and leftovers from my kitchen -- far away from my feeders -- to keep them occupied elsewhere!) - Friday, March 16, 2007Not as advertised Reviewed By: Rose (Chicago, Illinois) Starlings are quite capable of and anxious to feed on the grub at this feeder. Feeder should be less expensive than it is...and it doesn't do the job of preventing large birds from feeding. I feel that offering grub in this feeder is expensive and ineffective. - Thursday, February 22, 2007Not quite as advertised... Reviewed By: Sharon Hamersley (Columbus, Ohio) I bought this feeder hoping to attract more warblers and other small insect feeders. The bird grub is very expensive, and unfortunately starlings are able to help themselves (despite what the description states.) They can clean it out in about 1/2 hour and I can't chase them off all the time. So I put out very small amounts and just hope the "little folks" get there first. Most of the time the starlings chase them off, unfortunately. Read More Reviews |
