Gold Drift Weeping Norway Spruce - 4" pot
(Picea abies'Gold Drift') Very hard to find, with beautiful gold
color and graceful weeping form – a gardener's dream! New spring
foliage is lime green that turns to rich gold by late spring; it stays
butter yellow over the summer and gets gradually greener over winter
until the new yellow growth comes out again, creating a bi-color
effect. Then, there's the gorgeous weeping habit of the branches.
You can stake the leader to create an upright form at the height you
like, as in our photo, or you can let it grow prostrate as a ground
cover; it's spectacular cascading over a wall, too! Not particularly
hard to grow, but it likes good soil with plenty of organic matter, a
well-drained site, and generous mulch. It appreciates water in dry
times, too. Sun brings out the best color, but young plants might
need some protection from hot summer sun to avoid sunburn. Spruce
cones feed nuthatches, crossbills, finches, chickadees, grosbeaks and
woodpeckers.
Zones 3-8, slowly grows to 6-8' tall and 2' wide in
10 years, sun/part shade, 4" pot.
For each offer ordered, you will receive 1 plant.
